Guide to Seville attractions

The list of Seville attractions can seem daunting on your first visit, regardless of how many days you plan to spend in the city.

There are fabulous sights to see in every corner of Seville. The broad range of architectural history provides a sumptuous backdrop to city life. Here you can admire medieval mansions, royal palaces, magnificent churches, and sober red brickwork civil complexes.

Not to mention that few cities preserve their traditions intact to the extent that Seville does. Among them are the bullfights, flamenco, and some important yearly events such as the Semana Santa and the Feria de Abril. Sevillanos are never bored!

Here is a list with a few ideas that you should consider while planning your visit.

Sights

There is an amazing list of sights in Seville, Spain’s most beautiful city according to most. It has an incredible appeal to both foreigners and Spaniards because of its light, the way Sevillanos enjoy themselves and its gorgeous architecture. Seville is one of the most romantic cities in Europe with a mixture of Roman reminiscences and Moorish traditions. So, without a doubt, you’ll be pretty soon delighted by its charm and passion.

Money Saving Tip: The admission to all these monuments is included in the Sevilla Card.

Museums

Seville museums cover a wide range of subjects, from paintings to archeological pieces and even our most famous art, flamenco.

Unfortunately, sometimes visitors underestimate the city’s museums either because nobody told them about or because they are short of time. You should take a closer look to some of them and allow some time in your schedule to visit them if it is possible.

Spanish tapas

Spanish tapas are our most famous (and delicious!) dish. They are without a doubt the best emblem of our gastronomy. And now that they have been exported almost everywhere, it’s not hard to find a tapas bar from New York to Melbourne.

This section provides all the information you need in order to enjoy the best tapas in the world. Indulge yourself and try them as soon as possible!

Bullfights

Bullfighting in Spain is a traditional spectacle that became popular in the 18th century. It’s probably one of the most ancient mass entertainments of the world. Actually, bullfights are considered one of the symbols of the Hispanic culture and an art expression.

La Maestranza, Seville’s bullring, holds bullfights from March or April until October. If you plan to attend a Spanish bullfight in Seville, you should have a look at the official bullfighting schedule. It includes all the corridas that will be held during the season as well as the novilladas.

If you’re planning to go, make sure to get your tickets well in advance. Check out the full guide about purchasing bullfight tickets online.

Flamenco

What is flamenco? It’s both a musical style and a dance typical of Andalucía, the southern region of Spain. Originally, it was the traditional dance and music of the Andalusian gitanos (gypsies). Even though flamenco is still deeply connected to the gypsy culture, many payos (non-gypsies) have contributed to expand it both in Spain and overseas.

Seville is considered the cradle of flamenco. In fact a vast majority of famous flamenco artists were born or started their career in Seville. As result, the offer of flamenco is endless and you can choose among many options where flamenco dancing and singing are beautifully performed.

Semana Santa

As in many other cities in Spain, Holy Week celebrations in Seville are really impressive. It is definitely my favorite holiday for many reasons. The city transforms itself into a place of repentance, grief and symbolic darkness, despite the aesthetic couldn’t be more colorful.

Regardless of your religious attitude, don’t think twice and come to experience the best Spanish festival!

Feria de Abril

The Feria de Abril is the most popular celebration in the city and it balances out the darkness and sadness of the Semana Santa (another awesome event) as it is a colorful and cheerful festival. It is unbelievable how in just a few weeks Sevillanos go from penance to redemption.

During six days and seven nights Sevillanos spend most of their time socializing while eating, drinking and dancing. The atmosphere is lively and crowds enjoy a huge party. It’s amazing!

Football

Do you love Spanish soccer? La Liga is one of the strongest football leagues in Europe, and it has been entertaining the football lovers since the late 1920s. In fact, the football fever is in full swing among fans, the best players are back in action.

In Seville, football is a synonym of passion and Sevillanos break up into Sevilla FC or Real Betis fans. They need to be for one or the other. Being for Madrid or Barcelona, it’s easy because they are always winning. Every Sevillano will tell you that “It’s only when your team makes you suffer that you really come to love them”.
